Signs Joint Venture With Chris Stewart Group for first property in Glasgow

Cheval Collection, the serviced apartment specialist with properties across London and Edinburgh, has announced the launch of a new urban lifestyle accommodation brand MY Locanda and a joint development with Chris Stewart Group to build the brand’s first property which will open in Glasgow in 2024.

MY Locanda properties will offer stylish, design-led, fully equipped apartments in vibrant cities around the world where guests can be immersed in the heart of the local community. Every MY Locanda will be curated to reflect its surroundings and will be a hub for both locals as well as guests, with distinctive pop-up retail and creative activities to appeal to both residents and travellers. Spacious ground floor communal areas will be ideal for both co-living and co-working with food and drink offerings as well as dedicated spaces for business meetings and calls. To support the creation of an individual’s personal space in a city, each MY Locanda will offer guests the opportunity to borrow and loan items from the ‘Wall of Curiosity’, sourced from the local area, to make their apartments feel more like a home.

MY Locanda Glasgow will be developed as a joint venture between Chris Stewart Group and Cheval Collection and will be sited on a development adjacent to Glasgow City Chambers on George Square. Announcing the launch of the new brand and development partnership, Mohammed Almarzooqi, managing director for Cheval Collection Ltd said: “In December 2018 we announced our vision for Cheval Collection to expand beyond London and to manage both third party assets and invest in new properties in the UK and overseas. The launch of our exciting new brand MY Locanda and the development of our partnership with CSG demonstrates that vision coming to life.”

Cheval Collection’s Chief Operating Officer, John Philipson, said: “MY Locanda is a perfect complement to Cheval’s existing brand offering, giving us the scope to deliver an exciting new concept that responds to and anticipates changing traveller behaviour. Each new property is designed to reflect the mood and personality of its surroundings and will be enhanced by up-to-date technology and superior service.”

MY Locanda Glasgow will have 168 keys and is expected to create almost 100 jobs for the city when it opens in 2024. Designed by Hoskins Architects, it will be located in the heart of Glasgow’s business district with direct access to the pedestrianised Love Loan development and just a short walk from Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street stations, the University of Strathclyde and the city’s international finance district. It’s also just a 10-minute drive to the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre.

Guests will be able to choose from a range of apartments including 104 studio apartments, 62 one-bed room apartments, and two spacious one-bedroom suites with panoramic views over Glasgow. On the ground floor both guests and local residents can enjoy an artisanal coffee shop, yoga sessions and pop-up entertainment. 

The stylish building will also be surrounded by a new collection of retailers nearby from Glasgow’s best independent retail, food and leisure operators and artisanal producers.

MY Locanda Glasgow will appeal to those with an independent, youthful mindset travelling for leisure or business, solo, as a family or in groups of friends keen to find a stylish city base where they can engage with the local scene. Longer stay residents could include students, those relocating for business or those wanting a regular bolt hole in the city.
